A manager can be a force multiplier, or a force divider. My goals is that of a multiplier: to ensure that my team is running efficiently, while fostering fulfilling and meaningful career growth, and preventing "burn out". I also track projects and make product decisions based on higher-level business objectives. Often times, I contribute directly: writing code, managing databases, and testing.

I've worked alongside different business units and with various clients, and hands-on with all parts of the technology stack. My experiences have varied greatly: from building lean tech organizations and infrastructures from the ground up, to being a key player in huge, global tech organizations. Outages, DDoS attacks, fraudulent orders, client over-promise, and management "shake-ups" come and go, and working through them has made me a better engineer and manager.

    • The Jay Group (formerly eFashion Solutions)
    • June 2008 - October 2013
    • Experience Detail

I joined the development team at eFashion Solutions to work on a new proprietary eCommerce platform. My first assignments included designing and developing content and layout management backend tools and website features. Additionally, I implemented a database model layer to "stage" changes before pushing them live. One of my major independant tasks was to design and develop a flexible promotion management system. Through the platform, I worked with clients including Ashley Stewart, Mandee, AnnieSez, Rocawear, Carolee, Paul Jr. Designs, Ben Sherman USA, and Applebottoms.

After some time at eFashion, I moved into a lead developer role. In this position, I led and worked with small teams of developers and was responsible for integration with Amazon Marketplace Web Services. Integration included automated product feeds to expose items as well as automated order management for products on Amazon.com and Amazon Webstores for Karen Millen US, Steinmart, and a temporary flash sale site for Aldo Shoes. We participated in a limited beta release of Amazon's Custom Templates for Webstore.

In early 2013, I moved to The Jay Group as a senior lead developer as a part of a strategic acquisition. My responsibilities included managing remote team members, maintenance of older sites, backend warehouse and inventory management tools, customer service and support tools, and crons. The acquisition brought on several new integration projects for which I was responsible.
