A manager can be a force multiplier, or a force divider. My goals is that of a multiplier: to ensure that my team is running efficiently, while fostering fulfilling and meaningful career growth, and preventing "burn out". I also track projects and make product decisions based on higher-level business objectives. Often times, I contribute directly: writing code, managing databases, and testing.
I've worked alongside different business units and with various clients, and hands-on with all parts of the technology stack. My experiences have varied greatly: from building lean tech organizations and infrastructures from the ground up, to being a key player in huge, global tech organizations. Outages, DDoS attacks, fraudulent orders, client over-promise, and management "shake-ups" come and go, and working through them has made me a better engineer and manager.
